Hokey Wolf and his sidekick Ding-a-Ling joined the Huckleberry Hound Show midway through Season 3. Yogi Bear‘s popularity got him his own show, and Hokey took over Yogi’s place in the lineup. This is rare studio original model sheet artwork of Hokey, called “Wacko Wolf” on this early design. The art is dated Oct. 13 1960. Interesting, since the first episode premiered in 9/11/60; was a name change planned? Art is in graphite on 17″ x 14″ paper. This is from the hand of Dick Bickenbach (1907 – 1994), who has initialed his artwork in bottom right corner. There are five full-figure images measuring 7″, with two headshots of 2″. Great alternative name on original model sheet. Extremely rare early ’60s H-B character development art.
